What is License Plate Reader Software?
License Plate Reader Software is used within computer-controlled camera systems to capture license plate numbers along with date, location, and time. Cameras can be stationary (e.g., affixed high on traffic lights) or placed on mobile entities (e.g., police squad cars).
Data collected from automated license plate readers (ALPRs) is then added to a central server. They can capture information on not only license plates, but vehicle images, driver and passengers, and immediate surroundings.
Vendors can use the information to contact the relevant authorities to determine where the plate/vehicle has been previously to determine travel patterns, vehicle association, involvement in any criminal activity, and where it might be in the future. Law enforcement officials can share information with other agencies when relevant.
