Done well, Google Web Stories can be an effective way to drive big numbers of traffic to your content.
Wait… What are Web Stories?
Think of them like Instagram Stories, but for the web. As of today, Web Stories can show up in:
- Standard search results.
- Google Images.
- In place of YouTube videos in search results.
- In Google News search results.
In case you couldn’t tell… Google is pushing Web Stories as much as they can.
Now you’re probably wondering…
Do Web Stories work?
Yes, they do, and here are a couple of examples:
- Andrea Volpini created a Web Story on the top SEO trends for 2021. It went viral, and he saw more than 3k clicks and 360k impressions.
- Google published a blog post about how a Brazilian media portal used Web Stories to increase engagement by more than 250 percent.
So yes, Web Stories work.
If you want to build one of your own, Google did an entire workshop on the topic.
Basically, your web stories should be visual-led, about 10 to 15 pages long, and include less than 280 characters of text on each page.
These are just helpful guidelines, of course.
